Maxi e50 Clutch Starting Point Setting?

Hi All,
Replacing the shoes on my 3-shoe clutch that is from Treats. It has the blue springs and fresh shoes.

What is a good starting point for the screws that put pressure on the springs?

For example X number of turns?

Or X number of turns of the screw from all the way in...

Since going in might be an arbitrary starting point.

Looked there, didnt see any information about a starting point setting.

Since these clutches are popular with these motors, I was hoping for a well-known starting point. Ie a carb has a standard air screw starting point.

They set tension to 15 lbs when the clutch first opens

Yeah use the stock 2 shoe clutch with super stiff kick start springs 3 turns in from stock/flush. the aftermarket three shoe clutches are junk.

The screws to 15 ft-lbs for each shoe? that doesnt make sense as they are very easy to turn. Can you explain more about what set the tension means?

Are you taking about the nut for the clutch on the crank? I also need that torque..

I need help setting it up. I also need the torque on the nut that presses the clutch on the crank spindle. Do you know that?

No there is a hole with a pin the stops the clutch from opening to far. Now there is little black pads that on the center of the clutch. Not the pads that engage the clutch.

Now get ur fish scale run a coat hanger thru that pin hole and turn the screws in until them black center pads Just let go of the hub or whatever it is At 15lbs.

That is a start then you add more lbs for later engagement or less for early but that is a start. It was done on 2 shoe I'd assum 3 is close to same

20lbs torque clutch onto crank

25 for 2 speed 20 for 1 I guess if the clutch has no key then maybe more wouldn't hurt. But it's 20 according to puch specs

ill do 22.5 and split the difference between the suggested 20 and 25 =)

20 it is then as this is a one speed.

I was just messing with my clutch the other day and I swear I thought it said 25! Guess I'll have t look again

Well not quite 25 for 2 speed but for sure 20 for 1 sp but like I said that more may not hurt Idk if you have a clutch with no key. I have og 3 shoes I just got and havnt run but they have no keys. I still only did the 20lbs ill have to see if it will need more

Found a Manual, but its 1980/1981. Mine is a 1977.

Page 21 of the 1980-1981 Service Manual states:

2-Speed - 21-24 ft-lbs
1-Speed - 20 ft-lbs

Nick has found the same manual =)
